Bears will go as far as Cutler takes them
November 15th, 2009 | by BearsSTH |Let’s face it. The Bears are far from a perfect football team. They have an under performing defensive unit that has failed to consistently stop opposing offenses. On the other side of the ball, the offensive line looks like they have aged ten years, they lack a consistent running game, and have an inexperienced wide receiver group.

Despite these deficiencies, the Bears can move the ball up and down the field behind Cutler’s arm. The offense currently ranks 18th overall but 10th in passing yards per game. For the Bears to make a serious run, they will go as far as Cutler takes them.
What ever Cutler does, he cannot turn the ball over in the red zone. The Bears are leaving so many points on the field and have potentially cost them three wins (Green Bay, Atlanta and San Francisco).
The offensive philosophy has to change from a run to set up the pass offense to a pass to set up the run offense. Last week against the 49ers, the Bears got Matt Forte involved with the passing offense by setting him up with screens. Forte wound up with 8 catches and 120 yards receiving.
The problem now is that the entire league watched the game and will be expecting the Bears to run these screen plays. This is where Ron Turner will have to earn his pay check. If he doesn’t, he could be the odd man out if the Bears don’t make the playoffs.
Sound simple right? Now all the Bears have to do now is have their defense play up to their reputation and make a few stops.
